November signals the start of the seasonal downturn for the recruitment industry. In the past month, there has been a significant drop in job demand. While this is an expected seasonal shift, it has also been compounded by the release of the Government Budget, which has made businesses hesitant to hire. The drop in demand has clearly impacted placement volumes, but total placement volume remained 29% higher than the YOY comparison in November.
In November:
- The total volume of placements decreased by 17%.
- Temporary & contract placements decreased by 18%.
- Permanent placements decreased by 10%.
- The total volume of placements was 29% higher than in November 2023, led by a stronger temp & contract performance.
Whilst almost every sector experienced a decrease in placements in November, when compared against the strong October performance, two sectors did manage to perform against the trend.
In the Professional Services sector, permanent placements increased by 59%, achieving the second-highest volume of placements so far in 2024.
Temp & contract placements in the Blue Collar sector also achieved the second-highest volume of 2024.
